A message from the Artistic Directors…
Welcome to the inaugural performances of Dance Theatre Seattle. It is with great excitement and gratitude that we share with you rep one, our first program as a new voice in Seattle’s thriving arts community. Seattle is a city rich with creativity, collaboration, and courage—qualities we aim to reflect in the work we bring to the stage. DTS was founded with a commitment to bold storytelling through movement, and rep one is a triple bill that reflects the range of voices and ideas we are excited to explore as a company.
rep one begins with Breakdown—a tightly wound storm of motion and rhythm. This piece captures the urgency, complexity, and relentless rhythm of our modern world. Max Richter’s score propels the dancers with urgency and edge, channeling the noise and speed of modern life into something precise, exhilarating, and alive. It’s the sound of adrenaline made visible.
Casta Diva is a love letter to opera, reimagined through dance. A suite of six arias from six different operas become six emotional vignettes—each one lush, intimate, and steeped in drama. The choreography draws directly from the libretto of each aria, letting the words, the music, and the movement intertwine. Go on a journey through heartbreak, hope, happiness, ecstasy, and despair—woven together by a universal language of music and dance.
We close with the world premiere of Crushing, a new work set to an eclectic score of pedestrian sounds and pulsating electronic rhythm. Crushing explores the tension between pressure and release, structure and collapse. Dancers push their limits, grappling with invisible forces, creating a trance-like hypnosis. It’s visceral, physical, and relentless—an invitation to feel, not just watch, riding between resistance and surrender.
We are honored that you are present to witness the beginning of this journey. Your presence supports not only our dancers and artists in facilitating a space for DTS to process in the language we know, but also the belief that live performance still has the power to surprise, connect, and move us. We are excited for the conversations we hope to spark with our work to thoughtfully and originally contribute to the ever evolving creative dialogue within Seattle.
Thank you for joining us. We are thrilled to be a part of this incredible community, and we can’t wait to share with you what’s next.
Please enjoy the performance

I create from the pulse of the world around me—the way wind moves through trees, the stillness between two people before they speak, the electricity of a glance, the ache of silence, THE ANXIETY OF DOUBT. I’m drawn to the organic and the structured equally, the unspoken, the human experience. Music is my first collaborator—when it swells, I want to feel it in my ribs, in my spine, pulling movement from places words can’t reach. My choreography is rooted in self-truth. No artifice. No empty shapes. I don’t want dancers to perform emotion—I want them to live inside it, to let it crack them open and pour out. Each piece is a conversation between body and sound, heart and memory. It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. About feeling. About finding something real in the chaos. A quiet, powerful way to say what can’t be said any other way. If we're not moved—genuinely, deeply—then what are we even doing?

As a new nonprofit dance company, every dollar counts—and every gift makes a real impact. Our current annual budget is $100,000, and while we’ve accomplished a lot with limited resources, we have bold plans for growth. Our five-year goal is to become a $750,000 company—one that can support artists sustainably, produce ambitious new work, and invest in future projects.
To get there, we need your support. Your donation helps us build a strong foundation—not just for today, but for the seasons ahead. Whether it’s $50 or $5,000, your contribution is fully tax-deductible and may be eligible for a company match through your employer.
Join us in shaping the future of Dance Theatre Seattle. Help us create work that moves, challenges, and connects. Donate today—and be part of something that’s just beginning to take flight.

On behalf of the Board of Dance Theatre Seattle, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to rep one. We are delighted to present an evening of bold, expressive work that reflects the heart of who we are—artists, storytellers, and a community brought together by the language of movement.
This program showcases not only the incredible talent of our dancers but also the inspiring vision of Artistic Director and Choreographer Joshua Grant. His choreography is dynamic, emotionally resonant, and deeply human. Josh’s work continues to captivate with its depth and striking musicality—inviting each of us to see reflections of our own stories through movement and expression.
We are proud to support work that pushes boundaries while honoring the rich tradition of classical and contemporary dance. Thank you for standing with the arts, for celebrating creativity, and for being part of this extraordinary journey.
Warmly,
Natalie Ramsey
